“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.” - Dorthea Lange

I’m not sure how to describe it. The fluttering of an angel’s wings? Or an infant’s sigh? Description aside, every camera owner knows the sound their shutter makes as the exposure is made.

I want you to meet one of my great loves, Bandit. He might be a little small, but he’s packing where it counts. What’s that? You think “Bandit” is an odd name? Well, what else would you name something that takes pictures?

I remember finding my late great uncle’s Canon A-1 SLR ( built like a tank. The SLR, not my great uncle.) Once I held its metal body up to face and took a picture of myself in the mirror, I could feel my face contort into a maniacal grin.

Photography is life. You can mash ‘em up, paste them together, blow out the highlites, soften the edges, and add vignette until your heart bleeds. And if you don’t like it, just hit ‘undo’.

Congratulations to Dispatched_Polaroid and Cowcheeks’ graduation into the DSLR world. I’m very happy for you

and also very sad for your wallets.

Remind me to caulk my drafty windows.

Grumpy. That’s how I feel when i watch the sun set at 5:23p. With daylight setting so early, my brain automatically tells my body it should be tired and I should be getting rest. So I end up hopping into bed at 10:30p.

I’m getting grumpy just thinking about how grumpy I am.

Realistically, I really have nothing to complain about. In Fairbanks, Alaska, in the dead of winter, less than four hours separate sunrise and sunset. And then the polar bears come and eat you.

Hurry up, old man winter. Spring can’t be too far behind. For the folks in Fairbanks, make sure you stock up on shotgun shells.
